2024 in Review

As we rolled into 2024, we focused on 4 key components of our product: speed and performance, 3DS, Account Updater, and managed connections. Here’s how that went.

Improved Performance and Speed

Platform performance was top-of-mind for us in 2024. Throughout the entire year, we released updates to the Platform that improved overall performance and made calls faster than ever before.

10x+ Performance Enhancement on Token Searching

January brought a huge performance enhancement on our Token Search and Token List endpoints. These are now returning blazing fast!

50% Faster Session Calls

Early in 2024, we also had a strategic plan to increase overall performance. These enhancements have also improved calls to Sessions, which are now an average of 50% faster, with even greater improvement seen with higher request loads.

Token Speed Improvements

We significantly improved our tokens' speed for both Token Creations and Reads during the year—and customers noticed them right away. This speed and reliability is designed to ensure tokens can always be created and meet the needs of the latency SLAs as we know we are in a major part of the flow of our customers.

These speed improvements are a big part of our product and technical strategy to ensure we are exceeding the speed requirements of our customers and continuing to offer a highly available and fast environment.

• Our average token creation was cut in half.
• Our p90 token creation time was cut in half.
• Our max token creation time is 10x faster.

3DS

3D Secure, also known as 3DS, was launched in 2001 to help address credit card fraud globally by requesting additional information during the transaction flow and ensuring merchants only accept card payments from legitimate customers.

In February, we shared the huge announcement that we now support 3DS transactions for Enterprise customers. Later in the year, we expanded upon that by creating several 3DS guides for customers wanting to integrate 3DS transactions on web and mobile.

Account Updater

Basis Theory released an automated Account Updater service to keep near-expired tokens up to date and prevent accidental churn. This process allows merchants to send in a list of tokens to be updated on a flexible schedule for their business. The Account Updater job will notify your systems with a webhook once each card has been updated, signaling the need for all processor tokens to be updated.

Managed Connections

We announced the launch of Managed Connections, which allows merchants to switch between payment processors through our Payment Orchestration APIs seamlessly. With dozens of connections live and many more coming soon, merchants can increase payment flexibility, reliability, and acceptance rates through payment orchestration flows.
